"lesue"Canarvon Gorge

We had been to the caravan show on the Queens birthday weekend  in Brisbane for the past 5 years, so this year we decided to give it a miss and head out to Carnarvon Gorge for the week .Takarakka Bush Camp is where we made camp a nice little spot about 4km from the national park. The rain started during the night and continued on throughout the next day so we did some cooking. We had the diesel heater going most of the day as the temperature dropped to 4 deg in the evening.

It is now Friday the rain has cleared so on with the walking shoes and off to Canarvon Gorge. We walked up to the Moss Gardens which is a good walk for inexperienced walkers like us. It was a delight wandering through the rain forest with the various palms trees and wildflowers enjoying the recent rain. The bottle brush was out in flower they where up in crevice's and rocky outcrops, there yellow flowers added a lot of colour to the bush along with the wattle.

We headed back to camp mid afternoon, after a late lunch we went down to the Platypus pool for some late afternoon photos, unfortunately no Platypus as there where some children there throwing rocks into the pool and the parents just let them do it but reminding them periodically to keep quiet in a load voice (some people just don't get it)

Saturday arrived with some more cold light rain but stopped around midday so off to Mickeys Gorge for a look, after a bit of a rock climb we made it to a beautiful narrow gorge.

This was the highlight of the trip and will return next year with a graphite   tripod as i had to leave my old tripod at camp being to heavy to carry, so all my shots where hand held lucky the sun broke through now and then.

On the way out of the park we came across a monument to a plane crash that happened during the war.

"lesue" Alan Jackson to Wuruma Dam

We will try and do a little catch up for the year. Our next venture was down to Brisbane to see the Alan Jackson concert, took the van and stayed at the Aspley caravan park, the Jackson show was awesome a bit loud for me but still a brilliant show the next day we drove up to Kilkivan bush camp a really relaxing place at the fork of two creeks, most of the camp went under in the floods and they had just reopened for business
Next stop was Wuruma Dam just north of Idsvold its about 25km off the Burnett Highway, it is a free camp limited facilities most camp spots are right beside the water edge. We came when the dam was at its lowest a few years back and  now was the chance to see it full in fact it has been running over the spill way for 8 weeks now since the big rain. Wuruma Dam was constructed across the Nogo River in the upper Burnett River Catchment for irrigation & town water supply for Eidsvold, Mundubbera and Gayndah in 1966 not long after opening it was full then it was decided to let most of the water go to irrigation apparently the floods of 2011 was the next time that water went over the spillway it will be interesting to see how long this lot of water lasts
The shot below is of 7 Kookaburras sleeping together above our van
